What Is pH?

pH, or potential of hydrogen, is a measure of the activity of hydrogen ions in a solution, and therefore its acidity. The pH scale typically ranges from 0 (most acidic) to 14 (most basic, or alkaline), although some substances may have pH less than 0 or greater than 14. A pH of 7 indicates neutrality, such as pure water. In the most ideal state the human body should maintain a pH level of 7.34 ~ 7.45.

"From an evolutionary perspective, being slightly alkaline from a low-acid, high alkaline diet is the natural and optimal state of humans." American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2002, Vol. 76.
